CUSTOM WINDCHIMES OPTIONS
Here you'll find all the options I normally offer on my custom wind chimes. If there is anything here that you'd like to see that isn't, by all means request it on the custom windchime quote form right on this page. A lot of my options I have added because a past customer had requested it.
WHY SHOULD YOU BUY MY CHIMES INSTEAD OF LESS EXPENSIVE MASS PRODUCED STORE BOUGHT ONES?
Thick Wall Tubes - Not all metal tubes are created equal. All my chimes are made from thick wall tubes (unless tone preferences call for thinner), creating a fuller, more resonant sound with a longer ring time. Mass produced chimes skimp on wall thickness for the sake of cutting costs.
Correct Chime Hang Placement - Nearly all wind chime manufacturers hang each chime from the same point at the top of each chime simply because it looks better. This, however, tends to produce "clangy" tones with a short ring time.
Superior Tuning - I am also a professional piano tuner, performing musician and composer. I know a thing or two about what goes into a well tuned instrument. My chimes are tuned within a 1% variation of the exact note, making your chimes sound great.
Quality Materials - All support wood is made of new solid woods including poplar, maple, oak, and sometimes redwood. Knockers are either redwood, poplar, almond wood, or hard vulcanized rubber. All sails are solid thin poplar, almond wood, or sheet metal. Chimes are hung with braided nylon macrame cord for strength, longevity and weather resistance.
More Options - Every single part of the wind chimes I make is customizable from pitches (notes) to chime metal type to wood color to sail design and more. I am one of the very few makers in the world (and the only one that I know of in the English speaking world) who offers customizable notes.
OPTIONS FOR NOTES
See windchime note tester page or see quote form for note range options. Please take note that chimes in the C3 to B3 octave range are very large and very expensive.
OPTIONS FOR SUPPORT SHAPE (more pictures coming soon)
Support wood is automatically chosen based on other choices unless there is a specific wood request.
OPTIONS FOR KNOCKER
Almond wood rounded disc - This is the most traditional shape of wind chime knocker and creates the most piercing strike.
Almond wood angular disc - A disc shape with many sheer sides. Creates a slightly more percussive or "slapping" strike.
Redwood rounded disc - A traditional wind chime knocker shape that has a softer tone.
Redwood angular disc - A disc shape with many sheer sides. Creates a soft "slapping" strike.
Half sphere (poplar) - My usual choice for more economical chimes. Creates a more gentle, subtle strike.
Full sphere (poplar) - Creates a slightly more subtle strike compared to almond wood. Impressive to look at especially on larger chimes.
Rubber disc - Creates the most subtle and mellow tone ever found on a windchime!
OPTIONS FOR SAIL
Below are common shapes used as sails. Almost any basic shape is possible. Elaborate shapes may warrant extra cost. You may also choose more than one sail, each different shapes, or have one shape in different sizes.
OPTIONS FOR CHIME METAL
Aluminum - Soft, lightweight and corrosion resistant. Sounds best with softer knocker. Mellow tone that tends to ring longer than other metals overall because less strike energy is needed.
Brass - Hard, heavy, and corrosion resistant. Very pure tone (few overtones) with very long ring time if knocker is hard enough (usually almond wood).
Copper - Medium soft, lightweight and will tarnish over time. Will also corrode in rain or high humidity areas. Sounds more overtones making it have a "ghosty" sound with a shorter ring time.
Steel (EMS) - Medium hard, heavy and may rust on top, bottom, and near holes. Sounds best with heavy striker. Creates a more piercing tone with medium overtones and a medium ring time.
